Postdoctoral Researcher – Energy Infrastructure Planning

About the role

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to develop innovative methods and tools for energy infrastructure planning under deep uncertainty. The work will focus on the Dutch greenhouse horticulture sector and its interaction with the distribution grid operator Stedin.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate and model plausible socio‑economic developments affecting greenhouse horticulture energy demand.
• Quantify how these developments may transform local energy infrastructures, including heat, electricity, hydrogen and green methane.
• Develop robust decision‑support tools that capture sectoral interdependencies and evaluate alternative flexibility options.
• Collaborate with grid operators and industry partners to validate models and ensure practical relevance.
• Publish research findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at conferences.

Required profile

• PhD in energy systems, environmental engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field.
• Strong background in uncertainty analysis, systems modelling, and interdisciplinary research.
• Experience with energy demand modelling and familiarity with the horticulture sector is a plus.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Required skills

What we offer

• Opportunity to influence real‑world energy planning decisions.
• Collaboration with a leading Dutch grid operator.
