PhD in Epigenetic Regulation of T Cells (Cancer Immunotherapy)

About the role

The group of Fred van Leeuwen is seeking a PhD candidate to investigate epigenetic pathways in T cells. You will study how targeting the epigenetic writer DOT1L reprograms cytotoxic T cells to enhance their anti‑cancer activity.

Key responsibilities

• Apply innovative strategies in a human T‑cell model, including CRISPR‑Cas9 genome engineering, epigenetic editing, epigenomics, transcriptomics, and DNA‑barcode‑based epigenetic screens in yeast.
• Validate mechanisms in primary human CD8 T cells.
• Generate molecular insights to guide improved epigenetic perturbation of CD8 T cells for stronger cytotoxic responses against cancer cells.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in (molecular) biology or a related discipline.
• Experience with basic molecular biology techniques.
• Affinity for, or experience with, computational biology.
• Fluent academic English, spoken and written.
• Prior internship or research experience in gene regulation or chromatin biology is an asset.
• Interest in fundamental epigenetic mechanisms within cancer immunology.

What we offer

• Four‑year fixed‑term contract (36 h/week) with a gross monthly salary between €3,813 and €4,629 (OIO scale).
