Design Director – Digital

About the role

We are seeking a Design Director to lead and evolve our web discipline at Bakken & Bæck. The role focuses on translating complex technologies into clear, compelling digital experiences through strong visual language and thoughtful user interaction.

Key responsibilities

• Define creative and systemic direction for large‑scale web projects.
• Lead initiatives from early narrative and concept through to delivery.
• Transform vision into reusable structures, patterns, and design systems.
• Collaborate closely with strategy, copy, brand, product, motion, and engineering teams.
• Develop and articulate a forward‑looking perspective on web evolution.
• Mentor and raise the craft of design team members.
• Contribute to scoping, pitches, and new business opportunities.
• Help shape the growth of the web discipline within the studio.

Required profile

• Demonstrated end‑to‑end ownership of large‑scale web experiences.
• Strong conceptual thinking linking narrative, interaction, and systems.
• Experience building scalable frameworks, not just individual pages.
• Confidence working hand‑in‑hand with engineers and product teams.
• A clear point of view and ability to bring others along.
• Balanced vision and delivery mindset.
• Proven experience leading and nurturing design teams.
• Experience managing client and stakeholder relationships.
