Freelance Senior Art Director

About the role

Bakken & Bæck is seeking a freelance Senior Art Director to lead image‑led storytelling and brand experiences across multiple projects. The role will shape visual direction from concept through production, working closely with designers, developers, strategists and writers.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive the visual language of brands and projects, from early concepts to final execution.
• Lead art direction across brand and agency work, ensuring consistency across web, social, motion and emerging technology.
• Commission and direct external collaborators such as photographers, filmmakers, illustrators and 3D artists.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate complex technology into clear, emotionally resonant visual systems.
• Maintain a cohesive, culturally sharp brand world that scales across multiple channels.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an Art Director with a strong portfolio of image‑focused projects.
• Deep understanding of contemporary visual culture and how photography, film, illustration, CGI and motion integrate.
• Ability to work independently on a freelance basis, with capacity of 50‑100%.
• Willingness to work remotely and potentially relocate to one of the studio’s offices.
