Localization Engineer – Hybrid (Amsterdam/Berlin/Stockholm/Tallinn)

About the role

We are looking for a highly technical, hands‑on Localization Engineer to design, automate and optimise our internationalisation and localisation infrastructure within a Crowdin deployment. The role sits at the core of the globalisation team, bridging software engineering and product operations across hybrid locations in Amsterdam, Berlin, Stockholm and Tallinn.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain technical project configurations, branches and file structures in Crowdin/Crowdin Enterprise.
• Write, test and optimise custom parsers (JSON, YAML, XML, XLIFF, Gettext) and segmentation rules to ensure clean text extraction.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts (Python, Node.js, Bash) and middleware using the Crowdin REST API and webhooks.
• Integrate continuous localisation workflows into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
• Run pseudo‑localisation processes to detect UI clipping, hard‑coded strings and RTL issues early.
• Partner with frontend, backend and mobile teams to enforce i18n standards (ICU syntax, pluralisation, date/number formatting).
• Provide technical troubleshooting for build failures, encoding errors and parser issues.
• Collaborate with the Localization Program Manager and Solutions Architect to streamline source‑to‑release workflows and reduce technical debt.

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience in localisation engineering, software engineering with an i18n focus or technical globalisation.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with Crowdin/Crowdin Enterprise, including CLI, APIs, webhooks and custom file format configurations.
• Proven track record configuring localisation pipelines in regulated environments such as FinTech or SaaS.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computational Linguistics or equivalent technical experience.
