AI & Optimisation Engineer

About the role

Join Lionsville as an AI & Optimisation Engineer and shape the intelligence layer of platforms that drive live operations in maritime, logistics, industry and critical infrastructure. You will translate messy operational reality into a machine‑readable model, ensure its correctness, and defend the decisions it produces.

Key responsibilities

• Own the intelligence layer that recommends actions in real‑time, defining domain vocabularies, relationships, predictive models and decision logic.
• Design and maintain the semantic layer – ontology, taxonomy and explicit entity definitions shared across systems.
• Build and keep up‑to‑date knowledge graphs that capture complex cross‑system relationships for fast traversal during live shifts.
• Develop optimisation solvers that rank candidate actions against hard constraints, time‑boxes and absolute vetoes.
• Integrate machine‑learning forecasts where data supports them, propagate uncertainty, and retire models that do not meet performance baselines.

Required profile

• Ownership mindset, solution bias and ability to explain models to non‑technical stakeholders.
• Hands‑on experience working with AI agents in production environments.
• Proven expertise in semantic and relationship modelling (ontology, taxonomy, knowledge graphs, state machines).
• Background in optimisation or constraint‑based decision logic (scheduling, allocation, routing, operations research).
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Physics or equivalent track record.
• Applied machine‑learning experience with sound judgement on when to use or avoid it.
• Strong software architecture skills to deliver production‑grade code.
• Intellectual honesty about uncertainty and ability to provide clear explainability.
• Based in the Randstad, willing to travel occasionally to customer sites.
