Application Engineer / Administrator (Freelance)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Application Engineer / Administrator on a freelance basis to install, configure, and manage applications across production and non‑production environments for our client in The Hague.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and administer applications in both production and non‑production settings.
• Monitor application performance, tune systems and drive continuous improvement of service efficiency and quality.
• Handle application support activities, including incident, change, release and problem resolution.
• Write and validate procedural manuals, troubleshooting guides, and backup/restore plans.
• Automate recurring administrative tasks and produce technical support documentation.
• Contribute to the technical knowledge base supporting ICT Operations.
• Report on application availability, performance, capacity and usage as required.

Required profile

• Minimum 15 years of overall IT experience.
• At least 6 years in mid/large IT infrastructure environments and 5 years in application administration.
• Proven experience with micro‑services, container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and Elasticsearch.
• Hands‑on experience with public or hybrid cloud services (Azure or AWS) and ITIL processes.

Required skills

• Docker, Kubernetes, Helm charts, Rancher.
• Elasticsearch cluster deployment and administration.
• Microsoft Server and Linux Server solutions.
• Azure and AWS cloud platforms.
• Configuration management tools such as Puppet, Ansible, Chocolatey.
• Shell and PowerShell scripting.
• ITIL incident, change and release management processes.
