Forward Deployed Engineer

About the role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) you will work with customers to build and productionize solutions to their data and AI challenges using the Databricks platform. You will own the architecture, lead design decisions, and implement end‑to‑end systems spanning data engineering, AI, and application development while collaborating with engineering, product, and developer relations teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead production‑grade customer projects, designing reference architectures, custom applications, data ingestion pipelines and ML/AI model integration.
• Guide strategic customers through end‑to‑end design, build and deployment of large‑scale data and AI applications.
• Provide architectural guidance, ensuring solutions are secure, scalable and aligned with Databricks best practices.
• Collaborate with Databricks technical teams, project managers, architects and customer stakeholders to deliver technical components that meet customer needs.
• Embed with customer teams, engaging from technical ICs to executives to understand challenges and deliver measurable impact.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in data engineering, data platforms, analytics or software engineering.
• Proven ability to deliver technical projects, manage scope, timelines and measurable outcomes.
• Experience working with enterprise clients and navigating diverse stakeholder groups.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites up to 20% of the time.
• Databricks certification is a plus.

Required skills

• Programming in Python, Scala, JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience with modern development frameworks.
• Proficiency in at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, GCP) and familiarity with two others.
• Deep knowledge of Apache Spark and distributed computing.
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines for production deployments.
• Familiarity with MLOps, ML/AI models and AI APIs.
