Freelance Operations Physics Engineer – Advanced Microscopy

About the role

We are looking for a Freelance Operations Physics Engineer to join our high‑tech operations team in Eindhoven. The role supports the introduction, sustainability and continuous improvement of an advanced microscopy module within a high‑resolution scientific microscopy platform. You will collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, service, logistics and supply‑chain partners to ensure timely delivery of high‑quality systems.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical engineering support to the factory for on‑time shipment of high‑quality microscopy systems.
• Assist factory and field service engineers during first builds, installations and upgrades of new modules.
• Analyse and resolve complex technical problems to meet system specifications and performance requirements.
• Support and potentially lead New Product Introduction (NPI) and cross‑functional operational improvement projects.
• Create, maintain and continuously improve work instructions and factory process flows.
• Perform hands‑on assembly, testing, troubleshooting and training of personnel when required.
• Work closely with suppliers to resolve technical and quality issues and introduce new parts.
• Submit and implement engineering changes to improve quality, manufacturability and cost.

Required profile

• Proven engineering experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Strong background in physics or applied engineering; experience with advanced imaging, detection or microscopy technologies is a strong advantage.
• Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑moving, high‑tech manufacturing setting.
• Experience supporting or leading technical projects, including NPI.
• Capability to produce clear technical documentation, work instructions and engineering reports.
• Comfort with complex, modular systems and cleanroom environments.
• Knowledge of statistical engineering or data‑driven problem solving is a plus.
• Degree in Physics, Engineering or related field (PhD preferred; Bachelor’s or Master’s with relevant experience considered).
