Internship in Naval Ship Structural Design

About the role

This internship focuses on the structural design of naval vessels, addressing operational and local loadings such as pressures, accelerations, bending moments, and shear forces. You will contribute to research that optimises the structural integrity and fatigue performance of next‑generation naval ships.

Key responsibilities

• Select or develop analysis methods and engineering tools required for the research project.
• Plan, execute, and document the full research study, delivering an in‑depth analysis of the problem.
• Communicate results and conclusions to other departments and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Master‑level student in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Naval Architecture or related field.
• Passionate about ships, especially military vessels, and motivated to improve safety.
• Independent, analytical, proactive and able to manage own project timeline.

Required skills

• Familiarity with structural analysis and ship structural design (solid mechanics, structural dynamics).
• Experience or willingness to use simulation tools such as Ansys, Femap or LS‑Dyna.
• Programming skills in Python or MATLAB.
