Internship in Naval Ship Survivability – Shock & Blast

About the role

Damen Naval is looking for a motivated graduate or intern to join its research team focused on naval ship survivability, specifically shock and blast effects. You will work on cutting‑edge projects that aim to improve the resilience of military vessels against modern threats.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute and document a research project on ship structural vulnerability, delivering in‑depth analysis and conclusions.
• Select or develop appropriate analysis methods and engineering tools, such as high‑fidelity FEA, to assess shock, blast and dynamic buckling phenomena.

Required profile

• Top‑class Master student in Mechanical, Marine, Aerospace Engineering or Naval Architecture (or equivalent).
• Passionate about ships, especially military vessels, and eager to enhance onboard safety.
• Independent, analytical, proactive and able to manage the project timeline.

Required skills

• Experience with simulation tools such as Ansys, Femap or LS‑Dyna.
• Programming proficiency in Python or MATLAB.
