Lead Back-end Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Lead Back‑end Engineer to take technical ownership of Elockers’ smart‑locker platform, which powers real‑time payments and marketplace payouts for festivals and venues across six countries. You will drive the evolution of a robust micro‑services architecture while mentoring the team.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve the Node.js‑based micro‑services platform, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Design, deploy and monitor cloud‑native services on DigitalOcean App Platform.
• Maintain zero‑downtime during high‑traffic payment spikes at live events.
• Integrate and optimise Adyen‑driven payment and marketplace flows, linking software to physical locker hardware.
• Distribute critical knowledge across the team to avoid single points of failure.
• Raise engineering standards through CI/CD, documentation and AI‑assisted development practices.

Required profile

• Deep, hands‑on experience designing, building and debugging complex distributed systems.
• Strong expertise in Node.js and micro‑services architecture.
• Excellent communicator who lifts the performance of teammates.
• Proactive ownership mindset, especially for business‑critical incidents.
• Proven ability to introduce engineering processes and AI‑assisted tooling in fast‑moving teams.
