Lead IT Engineer & Product Owner

About the role

As the energy transition accelerates, GIGA Storage needs robust IT platforms to operate large‑scale Battery Energy Storage Systems. The Lead IT Engineer & Product Owner bridges business needs and the development team, turning strategic questions into clear technical priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Translate business requirements from Asset Management, Energy Trading, Finance and Business Development into technical solutions and backlog items.
• Own and prioritize the platform and data team backlog, ensuring transparent sprint planning, refinement and roadmap visibility.
• Design, develop and review code in a stack that includes Python, PostgreSQL/MySQL, Google Cloud, Terraform, Kubernetes, Argo CD and Grafana.
• Act as the technical counterpart for software vendors, BESS suppliers and optimisers, influencing build‑versus‑buy decisions.
• Maintain strong standards around testing, CI/CD, documentation and security while remaining hands‑on.

Required profile

• 7‑10 years of professional IT experience as a Software Engineer, with at least 2 years in a lead or similar role.
• Hands‑on expertise in Python and SQL, and experience in modern cloud/platform environments (Google Cloud, Terraform, Kubernetes).
• Background in IT/OT environments where software interacts with physical assets; experience in energy, BESS or grid infrastructure is a strong advantage.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field.
• Fluent English and currently residing in the Netherlands, able to work on‑site in Amsterdam 2‑3 days per week.
