Legal Counsel - Smart Buildings Division

About the role

ABB is looking for a Legal Counsel for its Smart Buildings Division (ELSB) in the Netherlands, reporting to the ELSB Division General Counsel. The role provides legal and integrity support for the Electrification Business, working closely with marketing, sales and supply chain functions in the Netherlands. It is an onsite/hybrid position.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and ethical standards, and manage legal risks across the organisation.
• Review and negotiate contracts, draft commercial agreements and other contractual terms with business stakeholders.
• Participate in risk assessments and advise on public tenders and special projects, especially those related to datacentre business.
• Take part in M&A and divestiture transactions, including structuring, drafting and negotiation.
• Support implementation of ABB policies, train staff on legal standards and integrity compliance, and assess integrity risks against the third-party management procedure.
• Manage litigation and arbitration, liaise with external counsel and oversee settlements and negotiations.
• Advise on labour and employment matters such as hiring and termination and discrimination claims, and oversee compliance with local labour laws.
• Provide expertise on digital agreements, software-as-a-service business models, cybersecurity, AI and trade compliance.

Required profile

• LLM degree obtained in the Netherlands.
• 6-8 years of professional experience.
• Fluent Dutch and professional English.
• Law firm experience and experience in an engineering or industrial sector are desirable.

• Hands-on business partner attitude, coordinating with cross-functional and cross-country teams.
• Strong advocacy, communication and negotiation skills, able to work under pressure.
• Ability to work in a complex international environment with diverse cultures.
