Mechanical Design Engineer - Aerospace UAV

About the role

The Destinus R&D engineering team is looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a passion for aerospace to join its team. Destinus develops Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for the defense industry and partners with government agencies and defense organizations worldwide. The engineer supports the propulsion and vehicle teams as the focal point for leading mechanical design projects (airframe, propulsion, landing gear, flight controls) through the entire design life cycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design projects for aerospace components and systems from concept through manufacturing, integration and testing.
• Generate 3D CAD models, drawings, schematics, bills of material and other documentation needed for manufacturing, integration and testing.
• Prepare and deliver technical documentation, including engineering calculations, analyses and assumptions that justify design decisions.
• Take part in design reviews.
• Manage suppliers and manufacturers, answering technical questions and resolving issues during manufacturing.
• Select standard parts, fasteners, equipment and consumables following best practices and industry standards.
• Contribute to DMU and configuration management.

Required profile

• BSc. or MSc. in mechanical or aerospace engineering; technician qualifications with substantial experience are also considered.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer in the aerospace industry (the text also mentions 8 years as an ideal).
• Fluent English as working language.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes: machining, sheet metal forming, composites and additive manufacturing.
• CAD and PLM knowledge: part design, DWGs, DMU management.
• Engineering fundamentals: dimensioning calculations, load paths, basic stress calculations, energy and power.
• Seal and fastener design, auxiliary component selection, ISO GD&T.
• Preferred: Siemens NX, TeamCenter PLM, metallic and composite structures design, hydraulics, fuel systems and component design.
