Postdoctoral Researcher - Translational Oncology & Biomarkers

About the role

The Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) is looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join the group of Daan van den Broek, working at the interface of molecular research and clinical practice. The group's research focuses on liquid biomarkers across tumor types and clinical settings, aiming to translate molecular diagnostics from the laboratory to the clinic. The postdoc will work on longitudinal biomarker measurements, including circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), circulating tumor cells (CTCs), proteins and metabolites.

Key responsibilities

• Design, manage and lead research projects involving patient sample analysis, modeling of longitudinal biomarker dynamics, assay performance evaluation and prospective validation of biomarker-based surveillance and treatment-response monitoring.
• Process and evaluate data and develop multimodal classifiers that integrate multiple data sources.
• Draft research studies and prepare scientific manuscripts.
• Write grant proposals and contribute to funding applications.
• Manage projects and supervise PhD students.

Required profile

• Able to work effectively in a team while taking responsibility for your own work and projects.
• Willing to take an active role in writing research grants for multidisciplinary collaborative projects.
• Comfortable collaborating with clinicians, industry partners, laboratory specialists, bioinformaticians and regulatory experts.
• Experience in laboratory research, with a solid understanding of molecular oncology and bioinformatics (preferred).

Required skills

• Molecular oncology and bioinformatics (preferred)
• Experience with longitudinal biomarker data analysis and dynamic modeling (highly valued)
• Training in clinical-grade biomarker assays, advanced bioinformatic modeling and multimodal classifier development will be provided where needed.

What we offer

• Three-year fixed-term contract, 36 hours per week, with a gross monthly salary of EUR 4,629 to 5,503 depending on experience.
• 144 holiday days and 57 hours of personal life budget, annual holiday pay of 8.33% and a fixed year-end bonus of 8.33%.
