Revenue & Project Controller
Destinus · Hengelo
Job description
About the role
Destinus is looking for an experienced Revenue & Project Controller to join its Finance team. The role sits at the intersection of contracts, operations, programme execution and accounting, owning the end-to-end order-to-cash process from sales order or project initiation through delivery, acceptance, invoicing, revenue recognition and the correct recording of project costs. It is not a transactional processing role and calls for technical accounting judgement, contract interpretation and business partnering across Sales, Legal, Programme Management, Production, Planning, Finance, Accounting and Accounts Receivable.
Key responsibilities
- Own the order-to-cash process: order intake, delivery tracking, formal acceptance, invoicing and revenue recognition.
- Ensure revenue recognition complies with IFRS 15, covering performance obligations, milestones, acceptance criteria, variable consideration, contract assets and liabilities, and over-time versus point-in-time recognition.
- Interpret commercial contracts and assess large, complex, long-term contracts, including modifications and milestone-based arrangements.
- Maintain auditable documentation (signed agreements, accounting memos, revenue schedules, delivery proof, acceptance protocols, management approvals).
- Run internal controls around revenue recognition and support statutory and internal audits.
- Support intercompany billing and work with Accounts Receivable on invoicing accuracy and outstanding items.
- Track project costs and financial performance (actuals vs budget, cost-to-complete, margin, variances) and prepare project reporting for management.
- Build reporting dashboards linking project status, milestones, billing, cash flow and revenue recognition, and own month-end and quarter-end close activities.
- Act as the link between Sales, Programme Management, Production, Planning, Finance and Accounting, and standardise processes as the company scales.
Required profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics, Economics or a related field.
- Professional accounting qualification preferred (CPA, ACCA, CA, RA or equivalent).
- At least 5 years of experience in financial accounting, reporting, controlling, revenue controlling or project controlling; a lower threshold may be considered with strong IFRS 15 exposure.
- Experience with large, complex, long-term contracts, preferably in manufacturing, aerospace, engineering or another project-based industry.
- Fluent English, written and spoken; additional languages are a plus.
Required skills
- Strong hands-on experience with IFRS, especially IFRS 15.
- Project cost tracking, project accounting and project financial reporting.
- Strong Excel and ERP skills, ideally Microsoft Dynamics; SAP, Oracle or NetSuite is also relevant.
- Analytical, structured and detail-oriented, able to explain accounting concepts to non-finance stakeholders.
