Route Analyst – Maritime Routing

About the role

ABB Marine & Ports, a global leader in weather data solutions for the shipping industry, is hiring a Route Analyst in Utrecht. The analyst applies hands-on experience at sea to optimise vessel routes, supporting customers in mitigating risks and making informed operational decisions. The role sits within the operations team of the Marine & Ports department and reports to the RouteGuard Operations Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse weather by interpreting weather models, observations, radar and satellite imagery.
• Issue route advice, taking navigational constraints of the specific vessel and route into account.
• Provide route comparison and scenario analysis through consultancy.
• Produce Post Voyage Analysis, interpreting and applying relevant charter parties, and explain it to customers.
• Produce contra PVARs, including basic understanding of competitor analysis and the strengths and weaknesses of ABB's and competitors' methodologies.
• Use internal applications with deep product knowledge to give timely insights on routes and voyages.
• Handle advanced customer queries by mail and phone.
• Plan and coordinate vessel movements, track certifications and monitor weather conditions, and collaborate with maritime agencies and the Coast Guard.
• Take part in improvement plans and contribute to the quality of the work.

Required profile

• 2+ years of experience in the maritime field, ideally as an Officer; experience as a Route Analyst is a plus.
• Expertise in route planning and coordinating vessel movements.
• Strong collaboration skills with maritime agencies, operations departments and vessel crews.
• Fluent English communication skills.
