Security Lieutenant

About the role

The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) is seeking a Security Lieutenant to lead and coordinate security operations at its The Hague office. Reporting to the Inspector/Assistant Chief of Security and Safety Service, the incumbent will ensure the safety of staff, delegates, visitors, and facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and organise daily activities of the Security and Safety Service (SSS) in The Hague.
• Inspect officer line‑ups to confirm proper attire, equipment and knowledge of security requirements.
• Assign officers to posts, supervise performance, and conduct regular patrols.
• Directly supervise personnel, draft disciplinary reports and evaluate staff.
• Maintain equipment, records and ensure fire‑prevention and safety programmes are enforced.
• Prepare, review and follow up on incident reports and complaints.
• Plan staffing for meetings and special events, and assume command during emergencies.
• Oversee e‑performance reporting, audit documentation and update directives.
• Prepare cost estimates, overtime forms and draft risk analyses as needed.
• Deputise for the Assistant Chief of Security when absent and support other SSS units.

Required profile

• Proven experience in supervising security personnel and managing security operations.
• Strong knowledge of security protocols, incident reporting and emergency response.
• Ability to inspect and maintain uniform standards, equipment and documentation.
• Experience preparing cost estimates, risk analyses and fire‑prevention programmes.
• Willingness to work in uniform and, when required, in civilian attire.
