Senior Backend Engineer – AI/ML

About the role

Senior Software Engineer (Backend) – AI/ML role within ClickHouse’s AI/ML Engineering team, building and operating AI‑powered features for the ClickHouse Cloud platform.

Key responsibilities

• Feature Development: Design and implement AI‑powered features across the full stack, from backend inference services to intuitive frontend interfaces within the ClickHouse Cloud platform.
• API Architecture: Create robust, scalable APIs that connect ClickHouse's database capabilities with modern AI/ML inference systems and external/internal AI services.
• Ecosystem Integrations: Implement and maintain integrations with the broader AI/ML ecosystem and standards, ensuring seamless operation with popular frameworks and tools.
• Technical Integration: Deploy models into production with proper monitoring, versioning, observability, and evaluation.
• On‑call: Participate in the daytime on‑call rotation alongside the team.
• Developer Experience: Design and deliver developer tools, SDKs, and documentation that enable users to leverage ClickHouse’s AI/ML capabilities.

Required profile

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in production environments.
• Direct exposure to AI/ML technologies.
• Backend development experience in TypeScript or Python, focusing on API design and service architecture.
• High level of ownership, able to drive features from concept to production with minimal supervision.
• Strong collaborative skills and ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
