Senior Game Designer - Systems & LiveOps
CoolGames
Job description
About the role
CoolGames, an international HTML5 game studio part of Keesing, is looking for a Senior Game Designer combining systems and economy design with LiveOps and product strategy. You will shape the core progression and monetization systems of free-to-play titles and own an events and content roadmap that boosts retention and revenue. The role is remote and suits someone who wants to work from home or join the Amsterdam studio.
Key responsibilities
- Design and balance core loops, progression, rewards and game economy, then extend them through LiveOps: events, content drops, experiments and monetization changes that improve retention and IAP and ad revenue.
- Define and maintain systems design for core loops, progression, rewards and economy, aligned with player needs and business goals.
- Build and evolve a LiveOps strategy and content roadmap (events, seasonal mechanics, IAP offers and ad-driven promos).
- Design and run in-game experiments (A/B tests, event variations) and use the results to inform design decisions.
- Write clear, developer-ready design documents and balancing sheets, and act as the single source of truth for feature scope, rationale and success metrics.
- Stay up to date on casual F2P trends and top-grossing competitors, and pitch new content, meta features or mechanics such as collections, passes, streaks and time-limited challenges.
- Work in an agile, multidisciplinary team with developers, artists, QA and marketing, and present product vision, LiveOps plans and post-event analyses to stakeholders.
- Mentor other game designers and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.
Required profile
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Senior Game Designer in the mobile or web F2P industry, with hands-on systems/economy and LiveOps experience.
- Deep familiarity with top-grossing casual games and F2P mechanics, and ability to anticipate shifts in player behavior or monetization patterns.
- Ability to turn complex data and KPIs into actionable design changes and roadmaps.
- Strong written and verbal English, with concise specs and clear presentation skills.
- Proven experience in cross-functional teams and in mentorship or leadership.
Required skills
- Bonus: game economy design specialization, puzzle/casual background, HTML5/web distribution experience.
What we offer
- Competitive remuneration.
- Flexible remote working environment.
- Company events at the Amsterdam office.
- An international team of 80+ professionals and the chance to work with major game platforms.
