Senior Project Estimator

About the role

The Project Estimator (or Cost Engineer) works within a team of 5‑8 estimators in the Sales Department, supporting Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam. The role focuses on determining accurate cost prices for maritime repair, maintenance, conversion and construction projects based on customer specifications, which then form the basis for sales pricing and project planning.

Key responsibilities

• Independently prepare quotations for repair, maintenance, conversion and construction works using technical specifications and drawings provided by customers.
• Analyse data, consult with customers to clarify scope, and collaborate with purchasing, subcontractors and suppliers to develop optimal total budgets.
• Participate in pre‑bid meetings and site visits in the Netherlands and abroad, and conduct ship inspections when necessary.
• Produce timely, accurate cost calculations and formulate technical specifications for each quote.
• Collect and review tender documents, prepare counter‑specifications, and monitor delivery of calculations and other deliverables.
• Provide project planning information and basic engineering data in cooperation with work‑preparation and production teams.
• Stay updated on developments in ship repair techniques, cost structures and industry standards.

Required profile

• Higher or secondary technical education with a commercial and technical focus (e.g., Engineering, Shipbuilding, Technical Business Administration).
• Extensive knowledge of estimating and cost structures within ship repair and a solid understanding of ship repair techniques.
• Strong familiarity with the ship repair market, including offshore oil & gas, wind turbine installation vessels, navy and transport vessels.
• Proficient written and spoken English and EU citizenship.
• Team‑player attitude with flexibility, accuracy and a service‑oriented mindset.
