Staff Engineer - Observability

About the role

Adyen is looking for a Staff Engineer to lead the evolution of its global observability platform. You will shape the telemetry and monitoring ecosystem that supports thousands of hybrid bare‑metal and Kubernetes environments and billions of daily events.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and drive the technical strategy for a unified, globally‑scalable observability platform.
• Lead the redesign of petabyte‑scale search, logging and metrics systems, moving from legacy stores to regionalized, multi‑tenant pipelines.
• Design APIs and integration protocols that enable autonomous AI agents for real‑time diagnostics and conversational queries.
• Decompose monolithic monitoring setups into high‑availability regional topologies to improve resilience.
• Collaborate with product teams to build self‑service developer tooling using GitOps, automated schema enforcement and quota management.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software, systems or platform engineering experience, including 3+ years in a technical leadership role focused on observability or large‑scale distributed data systems.
• Deep hands‑on expertise designing, scaling and operating core telemetry engines (distributed search, time‑series metrics, high‑performance logging) at multi‑petabyte scale.
• Practical knowledge of structuring telemetry streams for LLM consumption and experience with OpenTelemetry standards.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to align multiple engineering teams around a unified vision.
