Staff Software Engineer – Merchant Fraud Prevention

About the role

Adyen is looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Merchant Fraud Prevention group. You will own the technical vision for fraud detection platforms, shaping high‑throughput, low‑latency systems that process real‑time merchant transactions and integrate advanced machine‑learning models.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive a multi‑year technical north‑star vision across 2–3 engineering teams, designing distributed systems for real‑time transaction processing.
• Partner with the Director of Engineering to assess organisational health, remove bottlenecks and align technical investments with fraud‑protection goals.
• Establish consistent architectural patterns, engineering practices and quality standards across fraud‑focused teams.
• Collaborate with Data Science and ML Engineering to build infrastructure for fast model deployment, feature stores and real‑time inference.
• Work with Fraud Operations to translate emerging fraud patterns into platform and tooling requirements.

Required profile

• Proven technical leader who sets strategy through architectural judgment and influence.
• Deep experience designing and operating large‑scale, production‑grade distributed systems.
• Strong background in building infrastructure for machine‑learning workloads.
• Experience partnering with operational teams to turn investigative signals into scalable solutions.
• Ability to build relationships across engineering, product, operations and compliance.
