Team Assistant – Medical Insurance Section

About the role

The position is based in The Hague within the United Nations Staff Mutual Insurance Society against Sickness and Accident Unit (UNSMIS). It supports the Medical Insurance Section of the Financial Resources Management Service, reporting to the Administrative and Benefits Officer.

Key responsibilities

• Process health insurance claims and verify supporting documents.
• Check prior authorizations, benefits and related costs, assisted by senior Claims Assistants.
• Validate expenses, apply correct reimbursement codes and perform data validation in the Medical Insurance Underwriting System (MIUS) and the e‑Claims portal.
• Monitor and follow up pending files and payments, analysing outstanding claims.
• Draft responses to insured members and provide front‑office client services as backup.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; a first‑level university degree reduces experience requirement.
• Minimum two years of general office support experience; experience in UN or international health‑insurance schemes is desirable.
• Fluency in English (required); knowledge of Arabic, French, Chinese, Spanish, Russian or Dutch is desirable.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Medical Insurance Underwriting System (MIUS).
• Experience using the e‑Claims portal for claim processing and data validation.
