Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Cyber Security Engineer to join the ICT team at The Kids Research Institute Australia. The role focuses on protecting on‑premise and cloud systems, embedding security into the software development lifecycle, and supporting researchers with secure IT services.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, design and maintain security controls across on‑premise and cloud environments.
• Integrate security testing and vulnerability management into CI/CD pipelines.
• Conduct risk assessments, gap analyses and incident response activities.
• Provide technical security advice on networks, infrastructure, products and services.
• Promote a “secure by design” culture by collaborating with development and operations teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science or a related field.
• Proven experience in a similar security engineering role.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Required skills

• Experience with vulnerability scanning tools.
• Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Defender.
• Familiarity with AWS Security Hub.
