Database Administrator (Freelance)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Database Administrator to manage mission‑critical databases in virtualized and containerized environments. The role focuses on security, availability, performance and automation of database operations.

Key responsibilities

• Administer databases in virtualized platforms (VMware) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Enforce data security policies, audit access and ensure compliance.
• Handle incident detection, diagnosis and resolution using ITSM tools such as ServiceNow.
• Plan and execute change and release processes to minimise downtime.
• Monitor health of databases, OS and storage using SCOM and other tools.
• Perform backup, recovery, integrity checks and retention management.
• Optimize performance through tuning, statistics updates and query plan analysis.
• Implement high‑availability and disaster‑recovery solutions (Galera, MaxScale, replication).
• Build DevOps pipelines for database changes using Puppet, Azure DevOps and FlyWay.
• Automate repetitive tasks with Bash, Python and PowerShell scripts.

Required profile

• Minimum 11 years of IT experience, including 6 years in mission‑critical DB administration.
• At least 5 years managing MariaDB/MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.
• Minimum 2 years experience with Kubernetes in on‑premise, air‑gapped environments.
• Strong knowledge of conceptual and physical data modelling, normalization and ER design.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes for complex IT service management.
