Equipment Engineer – General & USP LVV

About the role

Johnson & Johnson is seeking an Equipment Engineer to support general equipment and upstream processing (USP) in its Lenti Viral Vector (LVV) Operations Facility in Sassenheim. The role ensures equipment reliability, compliance with cGMP standards, and contributes to new product introductions.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse equipment performance and propose improvements targeting safety, quality, reliability and cost.
• Lead system‑related projects, manage change plans (0‑3 months) and act as system owner for acute troubleshooting of cGMP batches.
• Maintain validated state of production equipment, keep documentation up‑to‑date and ensure capacity meets planning.
• Generate equipment KPIs, reports and oversee lifecycle management, uptime and downtime.
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance and Engineering teams across sites.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in biotechnology, biochemistry, biomedicine or process technology.
• 3‑4 years of experience in a biotechnology or biopharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
• Hands‑on experience with cGMP environments and EHSS standards; knowledge of Annex 1 preferred.
• Ability to perform 24/7 on‑call troubleshooting on a rotating basis.
• Strong communication skills in English (B2) and basic Dutch.

• Fridges / freezers (TCSU) operation and validation.
• Cell culturing, incubators and shaker‑flask incubation.
• Single‑use bioreactor control and wave bioreactor experience.
• Equipment qualification, documentation and lifecycle management.
• Data analysis for equipment KPIs and test protocol execution.
