Head of Engineering (Onshore Wind)

About the role

This senior leadership position is responsible for the overall engineering performance of an onshore wind turbine fleet. You will set engineering standards, direct priorities, and ensure fleet availability meets contractual commitments.

Key responsibilities

• Own fleet-wide availability as the primary KPI and drive engineering decisions that keep turbines operating safely and reliably.
• Analyse availability data to identify recurring failure modes and prioritize engineering actions.
• Safeguard contractual performance by aligning engineering activity with availability guarantees and warranty positions.
• Report trends, root causes, and corrective actions to senior leadership and, when appropriate, to clients.
• Lead engineering teams: set direction, standards, develop capability, and hold teams accountable for quality and speed of resolution.
• Ensure rigorous root‑cause analysis of complex faults and approve high‑stakes conclusions.
• Act as the senior technical authority for strategic, cross‑fleet, and safety‑critical issues.
• Maintain and evolve the engineering knowledge base, capturing lessons learned and standard repair methods.
• Identify and build business cases for service modifications, retrofits, and upgrades to improve reliability and lifecycle cost.
• Drive approved modification campaigns through to completion.

Required profile

• Extensive engineering experience in the wind energy sector, preferably on multi‑brand turbine fleets.
• Proven senior leadership capability with a strong technical grounding.
• Ability to translate data into actionable engineering priorities.
• Excellent communication skills for reporting to leadership and clients.
• Experience acting as a senior technical authority and overseeing complex fault investigations.
