About the role
The Office of the President of the United Nations International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals is seeking a Legal Affairs Intern to support its mandated functions. This full‑time, on‑site internship in The Hague offers a comprehensive exposure to international criminal law and United Nations procedures.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive legal research on relevant statutes, case law, and policies.
- Assist in drafting, proofreading, and finalising decisions, orders, and other judicial documents.
- Support the preparation of reports for the United Nations Security Council and General Assembly.
- Analyse applicable laws, rules, and policies to inform the President’s work.
- Help draft speeches, official correspondence, and press materials.
- Provide assistance on press and policy matters as required.
- Manage, retain, and dispose of records in accordance with organisational procedures.
- Perform routine tasks such as compiling and collecting materials.
Required profile
- Enrolled in or having completed the final academic year of a law degree (minimum bachelor’s level) or a graduate law programme (Master’s or higher).
- Fluency in English is mandatory; working knowledge of French is desirable.
- Knowledge of Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian or Kinyarwanda is an advantage.
