Mechanical Engineer – Quantum Hardware

About the role

As a Mechanical Engineer Quantum Hardware you will develop critical hardware components for our quantum processors, including packaging, shielding and sample holders. Quantum processors are extremely sensitive devices, requiring compactness, magnetic and radiation shielding, and precise thermalisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and iterate sample holders, magnetic shielding, brackets, and other components used to package, shield and mount quantum processors and amplifiers.
• Collaborate with design and measurement teams to gather product requirements and translate them into manufacturable designs.
• Document designs, technical drawings, and best practices to support knowledge transfer and scaling.
• Select and manage suppliers, overseeing outsourced manufacturing to ensure quality and timely delivery.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience in mechanical or hardware design with a proven track record of high‑quality, manufacturable designs.
• Experience with large temperature gradients, magnetic shielding, EM radiation protection, or thermalisation challenges is a strong plus.
• Proactive design approach, gathering requirements, sharing sketches and prototypes, and involving stakeholders throughout the process.
• Fluency in English.

Required skills

• CAD software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks.
• Prototyping techniques including 3D printing and CNC machining.
• Design of radiofrequency systems and/or printed circuit boards (PCBs).
