PhD Position Chaotic Sampling for Secure and Sustainable Networked Control Systems

About the role

This postdoctoral position bridges scientific research and municipal practice to address complex socio‑spatial challenges in former Dutch New Towns. You will work closely with three municipalities—Capelle aan den IJssel, Nissewaard, and Zoetermeer—while being based at Delft University of Technology.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct transdisciplinary research on how municipalities integrate social, governance, and spatial issues.
• Participate in municipal projects one to two days per week, gathering data and co‑designing interventions.
• Develop academic publications and reports in collaboration with Delft and Erasmus University partners.
• Facilitate knowledge exchange between municipal stakeholders, housing associations, developers, and residents.
• Contribute to the Resilient Delta initiative and the Regio Deal New Towns programme.

Required profile

• PhD completed in urban studies, geography, public policy, engineering, or a related field.
• Strong interest in transdisciplinary research and municipal governance.
• Excellent communication skills for both academic and practitioner audiences.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi‑institutional team.

Required skills

• Research design and qualitative/quantitative analysis.
• Experience with stakeholder engagement and co‑creation processes.
