About the role
Join the Dutch Plan Approval Department of Bureau Veritas, a global leader in testing, inspection and certification. You will assess hull structural designs for ships and offshore installations, ensuring compliance with international standards while guiding clients through design and construction.
Key responsibilities
- Review and approve hull structural drawings for vessels such as yachts, workboats, tankers, dredgers, inland vessels and offshore units.
- Evaluate compliance with Class Rules, SOLAS, MARPOL, IACS Unified Requirements, CSR and other international conventions.
- Provide technical guidance to shipyards, engineering firms and designers throughout design and construction phases.
- Assess design documentation for newbuilds, conversions and in‑service vessels, identifying inconsistencies and proposing compliant solutions.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and collaborate with global Bureau Veritas colleagues on complex plan‑approval matters.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Maritime Engineering or a related discipline.
- Several years of experience in the maritime sector, preferably in ship structural design, plan approval or shipbuilding.
- Strong understanding of ship structural principles, materials, welding standards and classification society rules.
- Excellent communication skills in English; Dutch is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and independence.
Required skills
- Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis of hull structures.
- Buckling and fatigue analysis.
- Knowledge of classification society rules (IACS, SOLAS, MARPOL, CSR).
- Expertise in ship structural design, materials and welding standards.
