Senior Aerothermal Engineer

About the role

Destinus develops Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for the defense industry and is looking for a Senior Aerothermal Engineer in Hengelo. The engineer performs and drives the aerothermal design of aero-engines and related components, designing and analysing compressors, diffusers, turbines, intakes and exhaust nozzles. The work builds up and develops the design process and methods, defines and analyses R&D tests from single components to full-scale engines, and uses meanline tools, CFD and optimization tools.

Key responsibilities

• Aero-design of aero-engine components using meanline design tools and CFD simulations
• Develop and implement automated optimization workflows, including DOE and multi-objective optimization
• Analyze test data and compare it with numerical simulation results
• Develop turbomachinery design tools and methods
• Collaborate with combustion, mechanical design and stress analysis teams to align design goals and evaluate results
• Mentor less experienced engineers
• Take part in and present at design reviews
• Document work in technical reports and specifications

Required profile

• MSc in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering or equivalent
• More than 7 years of experience in flow path design and analysis of jet engines and/or gas turbines
• Experience in product development processes, including gate reviews
• English at CEFR level C1, verbal and in writing
• Curious, analytical, proactive and hands-on in a fast-moving R&D environment

Required skills

• Meanline design tools for compressors and turbines
• CFD simulations of turbomachinery components, preferably Star-CCM+
• Optimization tools such as Axstream or Turbodesign Optima
• Heat transfer and/or conjugate heat transfer calculations (an advantage)
