Site Automation Lead

About the role

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Site Automation Lead for its Global Engineering & Technology organization at the Leiden manufacturing site. The role leads the automation organization, owns the lifecycle of ISA‑95 Level 1‑2 and selected Level 3 systems, and ensures compliance, reliability, and performance in a regulated environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high‑performing automation team, driving engagement, capability growth and succession planning.
• Define and execute the site automation strategy, ensuring standardisation and architectural alignment.
• Advance the digital manufacturing roadmap, optimise system performance and manage upgrades.
• Deliver automation projects on‑time, within budget and with full documentation and change control.
• Maintain GMP and EHS compliance, manage deviations, CAPA and audit readiness.
• Oversee full lifecycle management of execution systems, including design, validation, integration and master data.
• Provide 24/7 system support, manage infrastructure and data performance.
• Partner with Operations, MSAT, Engineering, IT and vendors, influencing capital projects and platform standards.

Required profile

• BSc in Engineering, Science or related field with 10+ years manufacturing experience, or MSc/MBA/PhD with 8+ years.
• 4+ years leadership and delivery experience in a GMP‑regulated environment.
• Strong knowledge of cGMP, validation practices and GAMP principles.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams, manage priorities and deliver results.
• Fluent English; Dutch is a plus.

Required skills

• ISA‑95 Level 1‑3 systems (DeltaV, PLCs, MES PAS‑X, OSI PI, infrastructure).
• Level 4 systems integration (ERP, Quality, Data platforms).
• Validation methods (FAT, SAT, IOPQ) and GAMP.
• cGMP compliance in FDA‑regulated environments.
• Project and financial management.
