Technical Author – Maritime Documentation Specialist

About the role

As a Technical Author at Damen Services you will be the voice of clarity in ship documentation, turning complex technical data into clear, user‑friendly manuals and guides that help customers and crews operate vessels safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new vessel operating manuals and enhance existing documentation, customizing content for specific customers and vessels.
• Gather information through literature review, expert interviews, and technical analysis, interpreting manufacturer guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Create precise, unambiguous English content, applying Damen’s style guide and Simplified Technical English where applicable.
• Lead documentation projects, handling planning, budgeting and ensuring timely delivery aligned with customer expectations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Damen, communicating respectfully with internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• HBO‑level technical education with at least 3 years experience as a Technical Author.
• Strong attention to detail, independent yet collaborative, and able to adapt to shifting priorities.
• Fluent in English with excellent writing skills.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering P&ID drawings.
• Currently residing in the Netherlands (preferred).

Required skills

• CCMS (Content Management System) proficiency.
• XML and DITA authoring.
• Adobe FrameMaker (plus).
• Simplified Technical English (STE) knowledge.
• Interpretation of P&ID engineering drawings.
