Head of Global Credit Risk

About the role

The Head of Credit Risk is a pivotal global leadership position within Adyen’s Operations function. The department focuses on managing counterparty risk across acquiring (chargeback risk) and issuing/financial products such as capital lending, ensuring safe scaling of new financial services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and scale a high‑performing global team across Amsterdam, Singapore and Chicago, ensuring consistent decision‑making while respecting regional differences.
• Oversee daily monitoring and manual review of high‑exposure merchants within the Merchant Potential Liability and Credit Risk frameworks.
• Act as the final escalation point for edge‑case approvals and present formal proposals to the Merchant Risk Committee.
• Use operational data to influence credit models, risk policies and appetite, feeding back to Product and Second Line Risk.
• Direct the global Collections function to ensure swift and professional recovery when risks materialize.
• Maintain strong partnerships with Product and Second Line Risk to align tools, governance and operational execution.

Required profile

• 8+ years in a credit risk leadership role within fintech, high‑volume payments or banking.
• Deep practical understanding of credit risk management for financial products, especially capital lending, commercial loans and charge cards.
• Strong grasp of the merchant lifecycle, bankruptcy risk and lending/underwriting mechanics.
• Experience managing global, multi‑region teams (preferred).
• Excellent communicator able to translate complex credit risks into clear proposals for executive committees.
• Proactive problem‑solver who identifies improvements beyond existing policies.
