Postdoctoral Researcher – Flying Vision Navigator (Aviation Sustainability)

About the role

Join TU Delft as a Postdoctoral Researcher to develop the Flying Vision Navigator, a dynamic roadmap tool that will guide the Dutch aviation sector toward net‑zero emissions by 2050. You will work within the Flying Vision Accelerator (FVA) project, collaborating with leading industry partners.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement the Flying Vision Navigator platform across three stages: route prediction, second‑order economic and systemic impact calculation, and tipping‑point analysis.
• Lead Work Package 2, focusing on alternative energy carriers for aviation.
• Collaborate closely with consortium partners such as Royal NLR, Airbus, Royal Schiphol Group, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
• Integrate external technological influences—including AI, autonomous systems, and quantum computing—into the modelling framework.
• Present findings to high‑level industry stakeholders and contribute to think‑tank sessions.

Required profile

• PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Innovation Management, Systems Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
• Proven ability to think systemically and apply first‑principles analysis in multidisciplinary environments.
• Strong analytical capabilities for assessing second‑order economic and systemic effects.
• Interest and expertise in alternative energy carriers for aviation.
• Familiarity with assessing emerging technologies such as AI, autonomous systems, and quantum computing.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with industry partners and external experts.
