PhD Position in Control Theory for Self-Designing Digital Twins

About the role

The project "Nature 4 homes" aims to develop nature‑driven building skin solutions to improve indoor health and reduce cooling energy demand. As a PhD researcher you will join the Environmental and Climate Design section at TU Delft and work on the control‑theory aspects of self‑designing digital twins for transportation systems within this broader context.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualise and define characteristics of nature‑driven building skins.
• Build and maintain a structured database of performance indicators and protocols across disciplines.
• Produce scientific publications, project deliverables, and present at workshops.
• Conduct interviews and co‑design workshops with academic, industrial and societal partners.
• Integrate citizen‑science data, physiological and psychological measurements, thermal monitoring and biodiversity observations into modelling efforts.
• Collaborate closely with partners from TU Delft, TU Eindhoven, Radboudumc, Wageningen University and other institutions.

Required profile

• PhD in building engineering, meteorology, civil engineering or a related field.
• Strong interest in the built environment and climate‑change mitigation.
• Excellent collaboration skills with academic, scientific and industrial partners.
• Experience in co‑creation, societal aspects or human perception of the built environment.
• Dutch language proficiency is a plus.
• Availability to start on 1 December 2026.
