Balance of Plant (BoP) Systems Lead

About the role

Ore Energy is expanding its product development team to accelerate the commercialization of long‑duration iron‑air batteries. As the Balance of Plant (BoP) Systems Lead, you will own the architecture, design, and integration of the supporting subsystems that keep the batteries safe, efficient, and reliable.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical architecture, specifications, and sizing for all BoP subsystems (air management, gas conditioning, fluid handling, thermal management, pressure control).
• Select, specify, and integrate hardware components such as pumps, blowers, valves, manifolds, sensors, heat exchangers, filters, and piping networks.
• Translate electrochemical requirements into clear subsystem specs and conduct trade‑off studies on thermal performance, pressure drop, parasitic energy, cost, and complexity.
• Build, commission, and troubleshoot proof‑of‑concept rigs, full‑scale prototypes, and early product builds in the lab/workshop.
• Develop detailed mass, fluid‑flow, energy, and thermal balance models to guide engineering decisions.
• Collaborate with testing and quality teams on validation plans, root‑cause failure analysis, and iterative hardware improvements.
• Participate in DFMEA sessions, hazard analyses, and technical design reviews, ensuring clean documentation and standardized operating procedures.

Required profile

• 5+ years of hands‑on engineering experience designing and integrating complex fluid, thermal, gas‑handling, or chemical‑process hardware systems.
• Strong systems‑engineering mindset with proven ability to define functional requirements, manage interface controls, and deliver multi‑component electromechanical solutions.

Required skills

• Pumps, blowers, valves, manifolds, sensors, heat exchangers, filters, piping networks.
• System‑level trade‑off analysis, mass and energy balance modeling.
• Root‑cause analysis, validation planning, DFMEA, hazard analysis.
