Instrumentation Technician – Utilities Plant

About the role

We are seeking an Instrumentation Technician to join a critical utilities plant in Hoogeveen. The role focuses on maintaining and troubleshooting measurement and control systems to ensure safe, stable, and reliable plant operation.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation and control equipment.
• Troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation faults, including PLC issues.
• Calibrate instruments such as gas detectors, oxygen sensors, and thermocouples.
• Carry out seal testing, valve isolation, and install temporary bypasses.
• Supervise and guide on‑site contractors.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures (Permit to Work, LMRA, ATEX).
• Document work activities accurately in SAP.

Required profile

• Red Seal certification in Electrical or Instrumentation (or equivalent).
• Several years of experience in an E&I maintenance environment.
• Experience working in ATEX‑rated areas and on‑call shift patterns.
• Fluency in English and Afrikaans.

• Honeywell control systems.
• Siemens PLCs.
• Instrument calibration and sensor handling.
• Gas detection and oxygen measurement techniques.
• Thermocouple measurement.
• SAP for work reporting.
