Lead Financial Control & Tax

About the role

You're the accounting authority at Aquablu, responsible for the integrity of financial statements, audit readiness, and all tax obligations. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will set the close calendar, build the control environment from scratch, and lead the company through its first statutory audit.

Key responsibilities

• Audit readiness: prepare statutory financial statements under Dutch GAAP (RJ), maintain a year‑round audit file, and manage the external audit end‑to‑end.
• Close: review and sign off journals, reconciliations, manage the close calendar and prepare management accounts for the CFO.
• Tax: handle corporate tax (Vpb), VAT (BTW), WBSO, transfer‑pricing documentation and filing deadlines, and maintain the tax position register.
• Controls and compliance: design the internal control framework, keep ERP audit exports clean, and own KVK filings, statutory records and chart of accounts.
• Investor and lender reporting: support the CFO on due diligence, investor and covenant reporting, ensuring all numbers reconcile to the ledger.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant (RA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with hands‑on experience preparing statutory financial statements under Dutch GAAP.
• Proven experience taking a company through a statutory audit, including technical judgment on revenue recognition, leases, provisions and capitalisation.
• Strong knowledge of Dutch tax (Vpb, BTW, WBSO) and ability to manage transfer‑pricing documentation.
• Experience building a control environment from the ground up.
• Self‑directed, able to set own calendar and meet deadlines without supervision.
