Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)

About the role

As a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) at TOPIC, you will work at the intersection of software development and quality engineering, building production‑quality test infrastructure for complex embedded systems. You will collaborate closely with software engineers to ensure code is testable, scalable, and reliable by design.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain test frameworks and automation tooling using C++ and/or Python.
• Contribute to production code and improve testability in partnership with software engineers.
• Create automated tests across unit, integration, and system levels.
• Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines and test infrastructure for fast feedback.
• Analyse complex system failures, trace root causes, and drive observability.
• Promote quality‑by‑design principles and testability within development teams.
• Work on high‑tech embedded, hardware‑software integration, and distributed systems with real‑world impact.
• Own technical decisions around test architecture and tooling.
• Continuously improve automation strategy for scalability and maintainability.

Required profile

• Strong programming skills in C++ and/or Python.
• Experience with test automation for embedded or hardware‑software integrated systems.
• Ability to collaborate with software engineers and contribute to production code.
• Analytical mindset for debugging complex failures and tracing root causes.
• Ownership mindset for test architecture and tooling decisions.
