Technical Administrator IT Data Infrastructure

About the role

Join the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI) as a Technical Administrator responsible for the research data infrastructure. You will ensure that valuable scientific data is stored securely, reliably and is readily accessible for researchers working towards a cure for cancer.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, manage and optimise the iRODS‑based data infrastructure, handling millions of files and large genomic or imaging datasets.
• Maintain tiered storage solutions ranging from high‑performance disks to cold‑archive systems.
• Support researchers by resolving tickets and providing guidance on data‑handling procedures.
• Contribute to strategic planning for the future IT environment supporting scientific research.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to improve ICT system quality and efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s level education (HBO) in ICT or a related field.
• Strong motivation to tackle technical challenges in a research setting.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Linux operating system.
• Programming and scripting languages: Python, C++, C#, JavaScript, Bash.
• Database knowledge: PostgreSQL.
• Experience with Azure or other cloud storage solutions.
• Familiarity with iRODS data‑management platform.
