Android AOSP Engineer – Device Foundations

About the role

Adyen is expanding its fleet of payment devices and needs an Android Engineer with AOSP experience to take full control over the Android OS that powers these devices.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Android AOSP efforts to build a strong and flexible foundation for our Android payments application.
• Engage with product, software, and hardware teams to ensure the best payment experience for merchants.
• Drive conversations with SOC and terminal vendors to secure high‑performing components.
• Ensure software quality using the latest Android OS engineering technologies and frameworks.
• Coach team members to develop the required skill set.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience working with the Android OS.
• Deep understanding of Android from secure boot and Linux kernel to Java framework integration.
• Proficiency in C/C++; knowledge of Java and/or Kotlin is a plus.
• Experience with source‑control tools such as Git, Repo, Gerrit, GitHub and Android command‑line tools (adb, fastboot).
• Track record navigating multi‑party development lifecycles, including Google mailing lists and compliance tools (VTS/CTS/STS).
• Experience modifying AOSP for domain‑specific features and implementing HAL (HIDL/AIDL) interfaces.
• Strong debugging skills in Android framework and Linux kernel.
