Design Engineer

About the role

GKN Aerospace is seeking a Design Engineer to join its Defense Engineering & Technology organisation in the Netherlands. You will work within a multidisciplinary project team at Fokker, focusing on the development, engineering, prototyping and testing of structural solutions for both flying and non‑flying platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and verify technical solutions and compliance documentation against customer, regulatory and airworthiness requirements.
• Identify technical problems, assess risk and propose mitigations.
• Create method plans, toolsets and approaches that meet design and program objectives.
• Support bid preparation by translating customer requirements into technical solutions.
• Produce designs that satisfy cost, manufacturing and DFMA constraints.
• Generate project deliverables, technical data and presentation materials for reviews and gate meetings.
• Assist in maintaining work instructions, procedures, tooling documentation and technical manuals.

Required profile

• Capable and flexible engineer with experience in lightweight composite structures.
• Proficiency with CAD software is mandatory.
• Knowledge of fiber‑reinforced composite materials is a strong advantage.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with senior engineers and cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks)
• Composite material design, especially fiber‑reinforced composites
• Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) and design‑to‑cost techniques
• Technical documentation and compliance reporting
• Airworthiness and regulatory standards awareness
• Risk assessment and mitigation planning
