Economy & Balancing Game Designer (Remote)
CoolGames
Job description
About the role
CoolGames, an international HTML5 game studio owned by Keesing, is looking for an experienced Economy & Balancing Game Designer to design, model and tune the economies, progression and reward systems of casual HTML5 games played by millions of people. You will work in a multidisciplinary agile team, from early concept through live operations, and choose between joining the Amsterdam studio or a remote team.
Key responsibilities
- Design and balance the economy, progression and reward systems of casual games, from the first design sessions of a new title through live operations.
- Own the revenue outcome of the economies you design.
- Build and maintain economy models, balancing sheets and simulations for each title, deep enough to predict the effect of changes before they ship.
- Use player data and A/B tests to find friction points, progression bottlenecks and monetization opportunities.
- Design motivation loops and a coherent ecosystem of LiveOps events.
- Communicate design rationale and trade-offs clearly, and research how comparable games structure, pace and price their economies.
Required profile
- 5+ years designing, balancing and operating the economies of released free-to-play games on mobile and/or HTML5, including casual or puzzle titles.
- Comfortable being accountable for a title's KPIs and making decisions backed by data.
- Strong analytical mindset, independent and proactive, with excellent English and experience in remote, multidisciplinary teams.
- Deep understanding of player motivation, retention, LiveOps and monetization design.
Required skills
- Advanced spreadsheet and modeling skills: balancing, simulation and forecasting models.
- Fluent use of AI tools to build and analyze models faster.
What we offer
- An international team of 80+ professionals from almost 20 countries.
- Competitive remuneration.
- A flexible remote working environment.
- An open, informal and international company culture.
To apply, send your CV and, where possible, a portfolio, economy models, balancing sheets, shipped games, design documents or examples showing your approach to progression, monetization and player experience.
