R&D Testing & Lab Specialist

About the role

ABB is looking for an R&D Testing & Lab Specialist to report to the Technical Product Manager. The role tests and validates electrical distribution products such as consumer units, plastic enclosures and installation materials at the R&D Centre in Ede, part of the Smart Buildings Business Line. It is an office-based position with occasional travel within the Benelux region (about 25% of time).

Key responsibilities

• Execute routine and qualification tests for new and existing products.
• Define, plan and carry out test plans on time.
• Maintain product certifications and support certification processes.
• Coordinate testing with external laboratories and certification bodies.
• Identify product non-conformities and propose technical solutions.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and test setups, and assist external certification inspectors.
• Ensure prototypes are assembled correctly and that test results are accurately recorded and reported.

Required profile

• Completed MBO Level 4 education in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a completed HBO degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• At least 3 years of technical work experience.
• Fluent English, written and spoken.
• Preferred: laboratory experience, experience with certification bodies, and NEN 3140 certification.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and electrical standards.
• Ability to read and interpret standards, regulations, technical specifications and test plans.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work in international teams.
