Senior Network Systems Engineer
NetApp · Schiphol-Rijk
Job description
About the role
NetApp is looking for a Senior Network Systems Engineer to join its Global Network Services team, which operates and engineers the enterprise network supporting NetApp worldwide. It is a deep technical role for an experienced engineer in Cisco routing, SD-WAN and campus networking who can own complex infrastructure end to end, from design and deployment through daily operations and escalated troubleshooting, across a global, multi-region environment. The team is moving toward a cloud-first, automation-led operating model, and the role welcomes candidates who bring, or are eager to build, automation and infrastructure-as-code skills.
Key responsibilities
- Own routing across the global network: design, implement and operate enterprise routing including BGP and OSPF across internet edge, WAN and inter-site connectivity.
- Engineer and operate Cisco SD-WAN, including policy design, template management, new-site onboarding and overlay/underlay troubleshooting.
- Lead campus networking for offices, labs and manufacturing sites across access, distribution, core, wireless and network access environments.
- Act as a senior escalation point for complex incidents, driving root-cause analysis and permanent resolution.
- Lead new-site builds, refreshes, migrations and design changes, coordinating with vendors and installation partners.
- Maintain operational health using network monitoring and telemetry, and manage changes through structured change control.
- Develop standards, runbooks and documentation, contribute to network architecture and roadmap decisions, and mentor other engineers.
- Partner with automation and SRE colleagues to automate recurring tasks and move toward infrastructure as code.
Required profile
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in enterprise network engineering and operations, including a senior technical capacity.
- Proven experience delivering complex network projects at enterprise or multi-site scale, with ownership from design through deployment and operational support.
- Strong troubleshooting and incident-resolution skills, and effective communication and collaboration across regions, with the ability to mentor others.
Required skills
- Deep hands-on experience with Cisco SD-WAN (Catalyst SD-WAN/Viptela), including vManage, vBond and vSmart.
- Expert knowledge of enterprise routing (BGP, OSPF, route redistribution, policy-based routing) with hands-on Cisco experience.
- Campus LAN and WAN networking, including Layer 2/3 design, switching, VLANs, spanning tree and first-hop redundancy.
- Demonstrated experience using automation (Python, Ansible, Terraform, APIs or similar) to improve network operations.
- Nice to have: enterprise wireless (Cisco wireless or Juniper Mist), network access control (ISE, 802.1X, TACACS+, RADIUS), cloud networking (AWS, Azure, OCI), observability platforms (ThousandEyes, NetScout, SolarWinds, LiveAction), Git-based workflows, CI/CD, network-as-code, SRE practices, firewall/data-centre/load-balancing experience, and certifications such as CCNP or CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure.
The company offers a hybrid working environment, with most roles having some in-office expectation shared during recruitment. Applications are submitted only through the company website.
