Technical Author

About the role

As a Technical Author at Damen Services you will be the voice of clarity in ship documentation, turning complex technical information into clear, user‑friendly manuals and guides that enable customers and crews to operate vessels safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Develop new vessel operating manuals and continuously improve existing documentation.
• Customize content to meet specific customer and vessel requirements.
• Research information through literature review, expert interviews and technical analysis.
• Write precise, unambiguous English content, applying the company style guide and Simplified Technical English where applicable.
• Lead documentation projects, planning and budgeting to ensure timely delivery aligned with customer expectations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Damen and communicate respectfully with internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Detail‑driven communicator with a technical HBO‑level education.
• At least 3 years experience as a Technical Author.
• Fluent in English with strong writing skills.
• Independent yet collaborative, able to lead projects and work in teams.
• Adaptable to shifting priorities and able to read and interpret engineering P&ID drawings.
• Preferably already living and working in the Netherlands.

Required skills

• Experience with Content Management Systems (CCMS).
• Proficiency in XML and DITA.
• Knowledge of Adobe FrameMaker (plus).
• Familiarity with Simplified Technical English (STE).
• Ability to interpret P&ID engineering drawings.
